If only there were a way to bring technology to areas of the world without access…
That’s where our Solar Community Hubs come in. Built from converted shipping containers, these computer hubs are solar-powered, which means they are self-sufficient and can be placed just about anywhere. With the help of our local partners, Solar Community Hubs provide an opportunity for young learners to benefit directly from the expertise of in-country trainers and gain first-hand experience with technology and the Internet.

Solar Community Hubs
Computer Aid International and Dell Technologies have collaborated on Solar Community Hubs since 2011. We opened the first lab in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2014 before launching a series of labs in South Africa. Since then, we have opened labs in Kenya, Morocco, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico. But we won't stop there—because the Solar Community Hubs model is designed to bringing about change in difficult environments. The installation of the classroom provides access to technology for the first time, but beyond that, the installation of a Solar Community Hub provides services in addition to education, including an increased footprint for community support and networking, increased economic opportunities, access to water and electricity, healthcare, and biodiversity preservation.

What We've Done Before
This video shows our previous project at the Tiempo De Juego youth centre in Colombia in partnership with Dell Technologies, when we launched a Solar Learning Lab in Cazucá near the outskirts of Bogotá in the Summer of 2016. The aim of this program was to build local institutional capacity to ignite aspiration-led learning for marginalised youth of Cazucá who came to the area to escape the violence caused by the armed conflict between illegally armed groups and the national army.
